I am so pleased with this watch that I am going to take the time to write a very long detailed review. First let me introduce myself. I am now retired but I was a watchmaker/jeweler for over 40 years. When I started in the business all watches were either the manual wind-up type or automatic wind. I spent years repairing and disassembling and cleaning those watches as well as as 100 year old pocket watches and I saw the whole range of quality of watches. I was there when the first tuning fork and then quartz watches were introduced. I saw some watches that were good quality movements but lousy quality cases. It was quite common to see the chrome plated cases corrode away until they leaked and irritated the wearer's skin and had to be replaced because there was nothing that could be done. Broken stems and crystals was the most common repairs. Accuracy was +/- 1 minute per day. Watchbands needed replaced annually. Now let me tell you what you are getting in this watch for a mere $60.00 (unbelievably low price):This entire case and bracelet is made of stainless steel (no corrosion in 100 years). The crystal is a hardened mineral glass (nearly impossible to scratch and hard to break without using a hammer). The crown is a screw down which completely protects the stem from breakage and nearly guarantees the seal against moisture from getting in, even while swimming or shallow water scuba diving. I see many other reviews complaining about this watch leaking moisture. I will bet the price of the watch that all of those instances are because the wearer DID NOT have the crown screwed down after setting the time. This would not only leave it open to leaking but also leave it vulnerable to breaking the stem. That would be like leaving your windows open and then complaining when it rains and your window sill gets wet. This is not the way it was designed and would be a fault of the wearer, not the watch. So if you buy this watch expect to have to take a little extra time and care when resetting the time or date. I specifically chose this watch because it has the screw-down crown because I know that provides added protection when handled properly. The back of the watch case screws on rather than a snap on that is quite common. This further protects the internal mechanism from moisture and dirt. The date has a magnifier lens over it to enhance the readability. The dial is very easy to read and this is coming from a guy who needs reading glasses for nearly anything close up. The all stainless steel bracelet is a solid link with a double locking clasp that is easy to unlock when you want to do so.The quartz movement is a fairly common Japanese made Miyota movement that will usually keep accurate time within 30 seconds a month. These movements either work or they don't with no required maintenance except for replacing a battery every few years. The failure rate of these movements is nearly 0 percent. Now I will explain the very few negatives:If you are not lucky enough for the bracelet to fit you right out of the box you will probably have to go to a jeweler to have it adjusted. I had all the necessary tools but could not have done it without them. There is a very small adjustment built in that can be done with just a straight pin and allows some fine tuning (about 1/4 inch) but the removal of links is much more involved so expect to pay for that (but it's worth it!). The difficulty in adjusting it is a result of the sturdiness of the construction and will pay off in the long run because it will never just fall apart as is common in flimsier watch bands.Although I selected this one because it had the screw down crown many people won't like that feature. When setting the time or changing the date you must unscrew the crown and let it pop up to release. When finished setting it you must carefully press and screw it down again to protect it as explained above. If not done properly there is potential here for cross threading which will be fatal. Keep in mind that because of the watches extreme accuracy and the fact that there are on 6 "short" months a year that require correction this screw down crown inconvenience is a very minor thing. The price is unbelievable. 50 years ago I sold much less of a watch for $150 and that was in 1970 dollars. By those standards this watch should sell for at least $300 today! If this is to be given as a gift I will assure you that the packaging is superb and very classy. If you are looking for a good looking and super durable watch at a reasonable price do not pass this one up! Take it from and expert, this one is GREAT!Nov 2020 update: Been almost 2 years now and still flawless performance. I purchased two color variations. I left them along, no adjustments for time change or date. NO LIE: both have gained between 20 and 30 seconds over two years. That's *amazingly* accurate. Maybe they are channeling my Citizen radio watches? IDK. Impressive look and performance to this watch. While YMMV, this is an unexpected level accuracy.Review of the green and gold two tone, model 3950A.6. In summary, this is a great watch at very attractive price. I bought it for looks and NOT for water use. Definitely good for dry use.(additional note: I enjoyed the green and gold two tone so much I also bought the blue and gold two tone. Almost as pleased with it expect the blue is darker than I hoped for).BackgroundThere are a LOT of diver-look homage watches out there and Stuhrling has many models. Homage watch is a fancy term for a tribute where a company riffs the look of a much more expensive watch. Sometimes this is done tastefully (as is the case here) and sometimes with pure intent to deceive (ie counterfeit). The king of diver watches is the Rolex Submariner and its look has influenced a slew of tributes and counterfeits. Submariners are $5k and up. Way up.For many years, Stuhrling has used the Aquadiver moniker on a dizzying array of diver-look watches. The obvious differences include the face styles, time markers (batons or numbers), water resistance ratings, and hand styles. Case diameter can vary but the difference between 42mm and 44mm is barely perceptible. Movements include Japanese and Swiss sourced quartz and mechanical versions. Model numbers start with 395, 417, 676, 792, 893 etc. The 395 series has an MSRP of $500 and real world price of $100. Other Aquadiver models are up from there but typically $100 - $300 RWP.This watch is the 3950A series and labeled Pro Sport (not Aquadiver) yet is clearly targeting a similar look at a value price point. The 3950A series has an MSRP of $345 and real world price of $60 including delivery. Interestingly, there is a similar looking 3950 series on Shuhrling's website with an MSRP of $1,995! I believe the 3950A is the least expensive of all Stuhrling’s diver-look watches. The 3950A is a recent introduction in time for the 2018 holiday season and appears to have been marketed to and sold through discount companies like Amazon and Walmart. As the least expensive diver watch in the Stuhrling line in a way, it’s an homage to their homage!Note: I have not tested the water resistance of this watch in *any* way. Here are some points to consider.aesthetics comments* pro * looks good on the wrist. Very attractive green, gold, and stainless * baton time markers vs large numbers. I know where 3, 6, 9, and 12 are. * the substantial weight gives an impression of quality * hands are tipped with fine extensions making for precise time marking * the packaging is first rate and will impress as a gift * the band and clasp look good, are secure, and operate easily* con * the case is a bit thick and protrudes from my arm more than I’d like (easier to damage)* meh * the hands are their own style and don’t mimic the Submariner'sdesign comments* pro * the Miyota quartz movement is a good choice. * this copy gained about 1/2 second over 6 days. Outstanding.* con * I prefer a sapphire crystal for incredible scratch resistance. Not going to happen at this price point! :-)* meh * a water resistance rate of 100 m / 330 ft is rather minimal for a diver watch but unimportant for my intended dry only usemanufacturing comments* pro * the gold plating is quite similar in color and look to solid gold * screw-down crown operates smoothly * bezel rotation feels nice with a substantial click* con * really nothing noted so farSummary, this watch gets a strong buy recommendation. Not sure you can get a better diver-look watch for $60 or even in the low $100’sNovice note regarding band resizing: the band may need to be made smaller to fit the wrist and it’s super easy. Comes sized for a 7 1/2" wrist. Buy a tool online for $5, one in which you lay the watch so that it aligns with a threaded driver to push the pin out. Follow the directional arrows on the band underside. (NOTE: the pins are not the same on both ends. One end has a bulge that clips inside the link for retention). Remove unneeded links. Reverse direction and reinstall the pin small end first and tap flush with a soft-faced, small hammer or wood block.I needed a replacement watch while a much more expensive dive watch was being repaired (long wait for parts). I'm delighted with this watch. It looks great and seems to be accurate. It is rated for deeper dives than my other watch, but I haven't had a chance to try that part out. I would recommend this watch. The dial is clear, it keeps time well like a quartz should, and the bracelet has solid end links and isn’t too rattly. My only Q/A complaint is that the bezel isn’t tightly pressed against the case, so it rattles when tapped. Great for the $30 I found it for, and I would definitely pay $50-60 for it otherwise. Diese Uhr wird sofort zurückgeschickt!!!!I chose the black version of this watch and it arrived within 3 days on standard delivery. It was well packaged and well presented in a very sturdy box. I would say it is an average size and weight for a man's watch, with a nice looking bracelet. I have another Stuhrling watch which has been good, so gave me confidence in the brand. On the whole it is a good looking watch at a very reasonable price - don't forget to tick the voucher box and get £5 off the cost.I've had this brand before, and it really felt good and sturdy. It was a different model, Aquadiver. This one will be fine for its intended purpose, but I'm going to change the strap as it just feels cheap and insubstantial. This is where my disappointment comes in. It'll do fine as I say, but the quality does seem to have slipped a wee bit.At this price, for its intended use, it'll do, but could have been better.Excellent at this price. Good quality and well built. Nothing special in the materials or movement. It's all standard stuff - but I have no doubt it will last well and won't fall apart. A good honest watch, what you see is what you getRather disappointing this watch has arrived with a faulty mechanism as it often stops working for periods of time before suddenly working again. I love the look of this however frustrating to buy a brand new watch and it doesn't work.I bought one of these 3 years ago which eventually broke but I really loved the watch so was happy to buy another (slightly different) model.Maybe I got unlucky on this one but it feels a lot more rattley and loose than my previous one.Amazon since refunded so nothing lost except for some time and effort so worth a punt on getting a good one for ~£55
